Our analysis
This English-language course teaches backend development with Python and PostgreSQL by building REST APIs in Flask, with security and monitoring included from early on. We would recommend it to people who already code a little and want to see how a complete backend fits together, because the published syllabus goes past basic CRUD into data modeling, JWT, bcrypt, HTTPS, concurrency and Grafana metrics.
Who it is for
- People who know basic programming and want to move into backend development.
- Analysts and data profiles with SQL who want to serve their data through an API.
- Frontend developers who need to understand the server side to work better with their team.
What it covers
- Setting up VSCode, Python and PostgreSQL from scratch.
- Modeling data relationships and writing real SQL queries connected to Python.
- Building REST APIs with Flask and testing them with Postman.
- Core web security: HTTPS, authentication with JSON Web Tokens and password hashing with bcrypt.
- Concurrent and parallel programming for more efficient backend code.
- Monitoring PostgreSQL with Grafana to track performance and system health.
What to keep in mind
- The course is taught in English.
- Docker is in the title, but the published description does not explain how much container work is included. If that is your priority, check the syllabus before buying.
- Concurrency, parallelism and Grafana each deserve full courses of their own, so expect introductions here.
- Flask is lightweight and good for learning. If you later need a more opinionated framework, plan to add FastAPI or Django.
Where it fits in a path
Before this course it helps to have the basics from "How to learn Python from scratch" and some of "How to learn SQL from scratch", since the course expects you to write queries and functions without stopping on syntax. In the "Web developer roadmap" it covers the backend piece; if you are aiming for full stack, you can later connect these APIs to a frontend like the one in "How to learn Angular". To take what you build to production, the logical next step is the cloud, starting with "AWS Cloud Practitioner certification".
