Power BI

From the Excel report to a dashboard that refreshes itself.

In many companies Power BI is the natural step after Excel: the same data, but connected to the source, refreshed without anyone touching it and on a dashboard the whole department can open. At TintoDev we often see it as the reporting layer on top of the databases behind the systems we build, and that is where you notice the difference between a dashboard that looks good and one that answers questions. That difference is almost never in the charts. It is in the data model and the DAX. So this selection favours courses that explain the star schema, relationships and evaluation context through practical cases, and that keep up with a service that ships updates every month. There are good Spanish-language courses to start with; for advanced DAX, the reference courses are usually in English.

Who it is for

  • Advanced Excel users who spend hours updating the same report every week.
  • Analysts who need to deliver dashboards to management, not just attachments.
  • Finance, sales or operations teams that want a single version of their metrics.
  • Developers who get asked for "a dashboard" and want to get it right from the model up.

What you will learn

  • Power Query to connect sources (Excel, SQL, flat files) and clean the data before loading it.
  • Star schema modelling: fact tables, dimensions and relationships that do not mislead you.
  • DAX: measures, filter context and time intelligence functions.
  • Dashboard design that answers one question per page.
  • Publishing to the Power BI service, scheduled refresh and row-level security.

Recommended order

  1. Power Query and data loading, building on what you already know from Excel.
  2. Data modelling before DAX. With a good model, the measures come out simple.
  3. DAX from the basics up to filter context, with patience: it is the hardest part.
  4. Visualisation and publishing last, once the model already answers correctly.

Microsoft Power BI – Complete Beginner to Advance guide 2026

This English-language Microsoft Power BI course covers, according to its syllabus, the full life cycle of a report: importing, cleaning, modeling, calculating with DAX, designing and publishing. Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to learn Power BI?

Building your first useful reports takes a few weeks if you already know Excel well. Mastering data modelling and DAX takes several months of real use, because DAX evaluation context only really clicks when you solve your own cases.

Power BI or Excel?

Both, because they do different jobs. Excel is better for one-off analysis and models a person works on by hand; Power BI is for recurring reports connected to the source that several people check. Knowing Excel shortens the Power BI learning curve a lot, since Power Query is the same in both.

Do I need SQL to use Power BI?

Not to start, but it becomes useful quickly. Power Query lets you connect and transform data without writing SQL; when the data comes from a company database, knowing SQL lets you pull only what you need and understand how the information is organised.

Power BI or Tableau?

Power BI, if your company already runs on Microsoft 365, because integration and licensing usually tip the scales. Tableau is strong in visualisation and in some industries. Data modelling and dashboard design concepts transfer between the two.

Are there Power BI courses in Spanish?

Yes, there is a good range in Spanish, especially for Power Query, modelling and dashboards. The catalogue mixes Spanish and English courses, and each listing shows the language of the course. DAX functions are written in English in every version, so the course language matters less here than it does with Excel.
