C# and .NET

C# and ASP.NET Core for the Microsoft corporate world.

C# and .NET are the natural stack for companies living in the Microsoft ecosystem: Azure, SQL Server, Active Directory and internal systems that have been running for years. We mostly run into it when a project has to integrate with that kind of infrastructure, and there it pays to speak the same language as the client’s team. .NET stopped being Windows-only a while ago: it runs on Linux, in containers and on any cloud, and C# is now a modern language with async/await, LINQ and a very complete type system. In this category we favour courses on current .NET, not .NET Framework, and on ASP.NET Core for building APIs and web apps with Entity Framework, authentication and tests. We skipped the ones still centred on Web Forms or on versions that no longer get support. There are Spanish-language courses to get started and English reference courses, which track each new release more closely.

Who it is for

  • People who work, or want to work, at companies whose stack is Microsoft.
  • Developers maintaining .NET Framework applications who need to migrate to modern .NET.
  • Anyone coming from Java who wants a language with similar ideas and tightly integrated tooling.
  • People who want to do backend work and also games with Unity, where C# is the main language.

What you will learn

  • Modern C#: types, LINQ, async/await, records and pattern matching.
  • ASP.NET Core for REST APIs: controllers, minimal APIs, middleware and dependency injection.
  • Entity Framework Core and designing the data layer with SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
  • Authentication with Identity or external providers such as Entra ID.
  • Testing, per-environment configuration and deployment to containers or Azure.

Recommended order

  1. C# and object orientation on a current version of .NET.
  2. ASP.NET Core, building an API with a database and Entity Framework.
  3. Authentication, testing and deployment on that same API.
  4. If your company uses Azure, its services last, once you know what your application needs.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to learn C# and .NET?

C# basics take two or three months of steady practice. Building APIs with ASP.NET Core and Entity Framework comfortably usually takes several more months, because the ecosystem is broad.

C# or Java?

They are very similar languages, and what you learn in one transfers well to the other. Choose based on where you want to work: C# at Microsoft-stack companies and in Unity development; Java in banking and in large systems already running on the JVM.

What is the difference between .NET Framework and .NET?

.NET Framework is the older, Windows-only version that gets maintenance but no longer evolves; .NET (formerly .NET Core) is the current cross-platform, open-source platform. To learn, always pick current .NET, even if you later end up maintaining something on Framework.

Is .NET useful for getting a job in Latin America?

Yes, especially at mid-sized and large companies, in the financial sector and at consultancies serving corporate clients. It is a less visible market on social media than JavaScript, but demand is steady.

Are there C# and .NET courses in Spanish?

Yes. The catalogue mixes Spanish and English courses, and each listing shows the course language. Make sure the course uses a current version of .NET and ASP.NET Core, because plenty of .NET Framework material is still around.
